Question 1
I want to get into the public service but I am not really interested in contract work.  What should I do?

Answer
You could apply through the public service gazette or look in the papers for jobs advertised however we believe that the quickest way to get in is through doing contract work. You gain experience in government and also if the roles are advertised you can apply for the job.

What happens to me after I finish a contract?

Answer
You will need to keep in touch with your consultant and advise them.  They will do their best to place you in another position as soon as possible.

What sort of sectors do you look after?


Answer

We look after government sector, both Commonwealth and ACT and we look after legal, accounting/finance, IT, Scribing, Information Management, Medical Administration and Sales and Marketing

 

Question 4

I have been out of the workforce for a while. What can I do to improve my chances of getting back into it?


Answer

Come and talk to a Careers Unlimited Consultant.  Look at updating your computer skills and research some relevant courses that you can undertake to improve your chances of finding employment.

 

Question 5

Would temping or contracting  add value to my career?


Answer

Any experience you gain is going to add value to your career prospects especially if you are undertaking work that is relevant to your career.

 

Question 6

Do I have to wear a suit every time I attend an interview?


Answer

It would be preferable, however if you do not own a suit, neat and tidy, shirt, pants/skirt would be suitable.

How do I apply for a vacancy?


Answer

You need to send a resume into Careers Unlimited.  You could also ring and have a quick chat with a consultant who will be able to answer you initial enquiry.

Can I submit a general application?


Answer

You can submit on-line through our website or through employ@careersunlimited.com.au

I cannot apply online, what is the problem?

Please call us and we will step you through the process

 

Question 10

Do I have to pay for an application, processing, interviewing or training fee?

Answer

No. Careers Unlimited does not charge you for any part of the process.  Our fee is paid by the client or employer.

 

Question 11

Can I be considered for temporary work as well as permanent?


Answer

Most definitely.  Whilst you are looking for permanent work we always suggest you do temporary work – this gives you more experience, keeps you financial, and sometimes these positions could also end up being permanent.

What do you do to ensure my confidentiality?

Answer
Privacy laws and our own code of conduct will ensure that your details are kept confidential.  You will always be contacted before your details are referred anywhere.
